Beginning September 5, 2008, the Segal Centre for Performing Arts is launching
an innovative educational program for highly motivated and passionate students.
Technical Training in Professional Theatre (TTiPT) is a program for students
who are ready to take the final steps required before entering into the world
of production in the performing arts. Students will find this challenging program
the ideal blend of theoretical and practical training.
What makes this program ideal and unique, is the daily interconnectivity with
professional theatre presented within the newly renovated Segal Centre. All
students will work with and assist the creators, directors, designers, performers,
production managers, technical directors, stage managers and professional artists,
who collaborate on all the classical, contemporary and exploratory work presented
throughout the theatrical season.
Our students will benefit from personalized training (maximum of 6 students
per class), designed for and focussed on their professional goals. As well as
immediate contact with the Canadian and International network of performing
arts professionals, organizations, manufacturers and associations who contribute
to our vital and growing cultural community. This direct contact provides each
student with the opportunity to create their own network of professional mentors
and learn how to navigate within the world of performing arts.
Students enrolled in this program may also benefit from the opportunity to
work as apprentice stage managers on the Theatre’s professional productions.
This apprenticeship follows the guidelines and requirements of Canadian Actors’
Equity Association. Under this program an apprentice stage manager must complete
a minimum of six productions for at least two different theatres, or eight productions
for the same theatre, within three years from the beginning of their first engagement.
Upon graduation students are encouraged to apply for junior positions at the
