Sunday-@-the Saidye

Hosted by Dennis Trudeau

March, 2005

Montreal, March 2005 - The Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre proudly welcomes Dennis Trudeau, anchor of CBC Televisionís Canada Now, as host of the upcoming Sunday @ the Saidye. Mr. Trudeau will lead an intimate discussion with writer\director Guy Sprung about the world premiere of his new play, Death and Taxes, produced by Infinitheatre.

Since joining the CBC in 1979, Dennis Trudeau has hosted a number of radio and television programs. He joined Newswatch, Montreal's flagship television newscast, in the fall of 1987. Trudeau has anchored the news through the Oka Crisis, the Meech Lake talks, the Quebec elections and sovereignty referendum.

A mixed-media docu-drama, Death and Taxes explores the influence of greed and the seduction of power in Canadian political and financial circles during the Trudeau and Mulroney era. Set against a backdrop of the major events in Quebec history at the time, the play follows the tragic story of a Montreal tax lawyer struggling to satisfy both his desires and his conscience while negotiating backroom deals that echo the corruption in Canadaís highest places.

The popular Sunday-@-the Saidye discussion series began three seasons ago in order to enhance the audienceís theatre-going experience. The public attends these programmes in ever-growing numbers as playwrights, directors, designers, radio-personalities, historians and even scientists provide a background to the plays throughout the season.

For the 2004-05 season a new partnership has been created with 88.5 CBC Radio One to lend greater prestige to an event growing ever more popular in the publicís eye. As such, this season provides an opportunity for audiences to be part of a nationally broadcast program.

The Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre presents the world premiere of Infinitheatreís Death and Taxes from March 20 - April 10, 2005. For tickets call (514) 739-7944 or log onto www.saidyebronfman.org.
