The Award-Winning Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre
of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts
proudly presents

Man of La Mancha
Directed by Bryna Wasserman

The award-winning Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre presents Man of La Mancha, on stage at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts from October 10-31, 2004

Fresh from directing The Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre’s sold-out production of Fiddler on the Roof, Bryna Wasserman, the Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre’s Artistic Director, has set her sights on yet another epic musical.

Written by Dale Wasserman, Man of La Mancha won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1965 and was one of the longest-running hits in Broadway stage history.

The play takes place in a late-16th Century prison deep beneath the streets of Seville and tells the story of Miguel Cervantes who, while awaiting sentencing by the Spanish Inquisition and to save his manuscript from being cast in a fire, proposes to entertain his fellow prisoners with the tale of a most famous and legendary hero, “a dauntless knight known as Don Quixote de La Mancha!”

Featuring such classic songs as “Dulcinea,” “Man of La Mancha,” and “The Quest,” Man of La Mancha bears a message of altruism and kindness and proposes that even in the darkest of days it is still right “to dream the Impossible Dream…to right the unrightable wrong…to reach the unreachable stars.”

Bryna Wasserman is at the helm of a production whose size and scope are rarely seen on the Montreal stage. The unique and imaginative production features: Jack Langedijk, Eddie Glen, Rebecca Poff, Vito De Filippo, Julie Fontaine, Danny Blanco Hall, Nancy Helms, Cory O'Brien, Regan Thiel; and includes Kraig Adams, Adrien Blazevic, Marie-Andree Cloutier Rodrigo Contreras, Julie Dumoulin, Laurence Elmoznino, David Freedman, Ben Freedman, Tristan D. Lalla, Esperanza Maggay, Natasha Massicotte, Genvieve Mondoux, Sterling Mawhinney, Bradley Picken, David Potter and Serge Smilovich

The team working to bring the vision to life is: Cindy Torreiro (Costume Designer), Luc Prairie (Lighting Designer), Rob Denton (Sound Designer), Ada Sinacore (Choral Master) and Julie Fontaine (Choreographer).

New For 2004-05!

88.5 CBC Radio One Presents Sunday-@-the Saidye

For the 2004-05 season, the award-winning Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre has partnered with 88.5 CBC Radio One to lend greater prestige to an event growing ever more popular in the public’s eye. As such, this season provides an opportunity for audiences to be part of a nationally broadcast program.

The popular Sunday-@-the Saidye discussion series began three seasons ago in order to enhance the audience’s theatre-going experience. The public attends these programmes in ever-growing numbers as playwrights, directors, designers, radio-personalities, historians and even scientists provide a background to the plays throughout the season.

Monday Night Talkbacks presented by Pratt and Whitney Canada.

Says Annick Laberge of Pratt and Whitney Canada: “Wherever the company is located, Pratt & Whitney Canada plays an active role in the community by providing support for the arts, health, the environment, education and social events.”

For 2004-05 we are proud to announce that Monday night talkbacks will now be presented by our theatre’s long-time partner, Pratt and Whitney Canada. As usual following the play, some of the actors and/or designers will remain on stage to take questions from the audience. This is an opportunity for the audience to get up close and personal with the people that make it all happen.

Monday night talkbacks have grown in popularity over the last several years and we hope that together with Pratt and Whitney Canada, Monday nights will become the night of choice to be at the Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre.
