This coming season, The Segal Centre for the Performing Arts will inaugurate The Studio, a new 177 seat theatre with flexible seating. It can morph into a dance studio, lecture hall, cabaret or jazz bar. In any one week, a visitor to The Studio might find an avant-garde theatre production, a klezmer concert, a chamber music recital, a jazz ballet and a storytelling festival for children.

Already scheduled for 2007-08:

Two productions by SideMart Theatre, a new company founded by SaBooge Theatre regulars, Andrew Shaver, Graham Cuthbertson, Patrick Costello and Trent Pardy.

Trad, December 4 - 18, 2007

Mark Doherty's Trad follows characters defined by a rich language that is poetic, immensely funny, evocative and touching. Echoing Beckett's "I can't go on, I must go on", at its heart Trad is testament to looking back in order to face forward.

The Dybbuk, January 24 and 26, 2008

Al Hirschfeld: The Magic of Performance, February 3 - March 2, 2008

Macbeth, April 22 - 24, 2008

Working in conjunction with the Haitian community, The Other Theatre will stage Macbeth (in English, French and Creole). Founded in Montreal in 1991 by Stacey Christodoulou, the bilingual company has earned a solid reputation for its transgressive and deconstructive approach to material from various media.

The Haunted Hillbilly, May 7, 8, 10 and 11, 2008

A SideMart adaptation of Derek McCormack’s novella, The Haunted Hillbilly will be a shockingly original and macabre re-imagining of both the life of Hank Williams Sr. and the modern musical.
