Definition of Levels:
Beginner: 0 to 4 courses in any particular medium, subject or approach.
Intermediate: 5 to 8 courses in any particular medium, subject or approach.
Advanced: More than 8 courses in any particular medium, subject or approach and/or has begun independent practice.

Students enrolled in all courses are expected to engage in home practice.


The following specialized workshops are designed to enhance your skills. Take one or more as a complement to your on-going courses!

Reinventing the art of the OIL PASTEL drawing
Jacques Clement
In this workshop, students will be introduced to a little-used but incredibly stimulating medium: oil pastel. Drawing inspiration from a live model, students will develop their creative potential by pursuing the whims of their inspiration. Emphasis will be placed on the different ways of using this medium: the traditional technique, outline drawing, the drybrush technique, monotyping, etc. The workshop can be bilingual and is designed for everyone, from the beginner to the professional!

The Portrait in Pastels

This workshop will introduce the student to some of the traditional and non-traditional portraiture techniques for Soft Pastel. Emphasis will be on some of the practical aspects of pastels including layering and harmony of colours and a few modern techniques.

NEW: Expressive Adventure with the Model

Discover the model using various materials through exploring and learning the many possibilities of combining pastels, acrylic, charcoal, gesso, oil stick etc. with collage. Fabrics, papers, textures will be used to show layering and transparency. Open your creative self to the many ways of working in this manner. Choices of developing your work will be on board or canvas. Discussions and analysis of 20C artists. Critiques with each student. You will be guided along this expressive adventure according to your needs. Some art experience necessary.

Recording Gestures in Dance

Drawing Basics

Acrylic Painting Techniques

Welcome to this exciting exploration of ACRYLIC paint. This course is designed to take each participant on a personal voyage of creativity and craft. Be in touch with yourself through painting; express your feelings and inner thoughts. This is a course for people who have painting experience and would like to explore new horizons within themselves and to share this experience with others. Participants are encouraged to pursue independent projects based on their own vision while exploring new methods of expression and improving techniques. Regular discussions and critiques are an important component of this course.

The Portrait
