THE DAYBED SERIES

AURÉLIEN GUILLORY

March 29 to April 23, 2006

ESPACE TROIS, Montreal, March 16, 2006 - Espace Trois is pleased to present Montreal designer Aurélien Guilory’s series of photographic portraits of personal and professional friends photographed on his daybed. The artist invited his models to bring costumes, masks and accessories that complemented their personalities to the photo shoot. Some of these people are Earl & Gary, Cornelia & Jack, Diana and her horse, Nathaniel & Francois, Sara and Danny.

The Daybed Installation
In this completely new photo-installation made especially for his exhibition, Mr. Guillory has enlisted the expertise of Juan Felipe Rojas as his computer collaborator to combine photographs of the models with atmospheres that relate to their personalities. All images are printed on archival paper by the Giclée process. A multimedia presentation will be presented on one wall of the Gallery during the vernissage.

Aurélien Guillory is installing the French Empire folding daybed in the Espace Trois gallery for the duration of his exhibition. It is upholstered in emerald mohair velour and the cushion borders are covered with a hand woven Mongolian Yurt tent frieze. As a symbol of luxury, its plush elegance suggests sensuality and comfort. The many different manifestations of daybeds throughout history and in particular during the Roman and Egyptian eras have been an inspiration to the artist in this project. The artist decided to immortalize it and his friends by photographing them seated on the sofa.

Aurélien Guillory is a well-known interior designer who has been teaching in the Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Arts for many years. He has given lectures on colour and colour therapy in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Sudbury as well as Chicago, Miami and in North Carolina in the USA. He was born in Lake Charles, near New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Guillory is a member of the jury of the Institute Design Montreal 2006. This will be his second solo exhibition in Espace Trois.

Vernissage: Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 5 to 8 pm
A multimedia presentation will be projected on one wall of the gallery during the vernissage and the artist will be in attendance.

Espace Trois is an exhibition space of the School of Fine Arts within the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts devoted to exhibiting work by artists who teach in the School of Fine Arts as well as the Advanced Atelier members.
