CIRCUS FOR FAMILIES (ages 2 ½-4) w/parent Instructor: Pierre Duhaime

This course is offered for children accompanied by a parent with active participation. Through circus arts, your child will develop motor skills, focus on balance, interact with circus objects and perform simple floor acrobatics and games that will greatly help the children’s focus and concentration. This course will explore the lives and music of the great composers and poets of Tin Pan Alley, from “Tea for Two” right up to modern day Broadway classics. If you are someone for whom “the melody lingers on’ then this course is for you. Episodes from the lives of such songwriters as Berlin, Carmichael, Arlen, Gershwin, and others will be presented, along with live performances by special guests. Starting this September, classes in health and safety, stage management, production management, technical direction, lighting, set and costume design will be offered on FRIDAY mornings at the Segal Centre for the Performing Arts. These classes are directed at teachers, students and practicing professionals interested in adding to their knowledge at a professional level. Also on FRIDAY, the Centre will be hosting equipment demonstrations from a variety of manufacturers, such as ROSCO, ETC, DMG etc. The purpose of these demonstrations is to keep the professional practitioner up to date on the latest technologies available in the industry and to connect with the professionals working in Montreal. THEATRE PRODUCTION – TAPS (public – ages 14-17) Instructor: Norberts Muncs

INTENSIVE 3-YEAR PROGRAM FOR SECONDARY III-IV-V: TAPS – THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS A performance is much more than its actors. If not for everything that goes on behind the stage, actors wouldn’t have much to work with. The first year of this intensive three-year program offers an introduction to the world of performing arts in Montreal’s famed Leanor & Alvin Segal Theatre. Students will work together with the professionals at the theatre in order to help: • Create lighting and sound design • Build sets, props and costumes • Use new technology to design special effects for the stage • Learn about the professional industry and how to run a theatre or production company – you become the director, producer, artistic designer, box office manager, communications and public relations specialist. In years 2 and 3, students will have the opportunity to specialize in their chosen area of interest. This course can accommodate a maximum of six students and requires an application and interview. All the programs will culminate in a final performance or screening in the Segal Centre’s new performance spaces. NOTE: Courses may include additional hours.
